Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: How long does the DBT Skills Group run, and what is the weekly time commitment?
- A: Because DBT builds week-over-week, consistent attendance is highly encouraged. If you must miss a session due to illness or an emergency, we provide a brief handout or check-in structure to ensure you don't fall behind on the skills taught. Modules run over the course of 6 weeks.
Q: Where and when does the DBT Skills Group take place?
- A: This group is held online, Thursday evenings at 6:00 PM..
Q: Can I join the group at any time, or do I have to wait for a new cycle to start?
- A: You will need to wait for the next available cycle to start. Each of our DBT skills modules runs for 6 weeks and covers one of four core topics (Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, or Interpersonal Effectiveness). Weekly sessions last 1.5 to 2 hours. Please submit the form below, and we will place you in the next upcoming group!
Q: What happens if I have to miss a session?
- A: Our groups typically run on a "closed" or "intermittent entry" basis. This means once a module starts, the roster is set to maintain privacy and comfort for the members. You can join at the start of any new module, provided there is space.
Q: How much does the DBT Skills Group cost, and how are payments structured?
- A: The cost is $100 per session. We provide official receipts that you can submit to your insurance or extended health benefits provider for reimbursement under psychotherapy or counseling services. Direct billing is also available for certain insurance providers. We're happy to discuss further financial questions and concerns. Please submit the form below and we will be in touch promptly!
Q: Do I need to be in individual therapy to join, or can I do both?
- A: Our groups are open to everyone—whether you are currently seeing a counsellor with us, working with an outside therapist, or entirely new to therapy. In fact, if you are already doing individual sessions, adding group work is highly effective. Think of individual therapy as the space where you unpack and process your specific personal challenges, while the DBT Skills Group operates like a dynamic classroom where you actively learn, practice, and build your toolkit alongside peers. The two formats work incredibly well together to accelerate your progress.
